Learn how to do palm reading with this beginners palmistry guide and get a real grasp on fortune telling.

Back in the day, when I used to run a lot of psychic parties, the star attraction was always Magic Mike, a professional palm reader with spellbinding powers. Even though I had great psychics and tarot readers in attendance, it was the kinetic connection with Mike holding his sitters, by the edge of the palm, that worked the most magic. And you don’t have to be psychic to know how to read your palm.

I'm quite sure that If you take the time to learn how to read palms you'll soon be able to evaluate characters and futures and you too will mesmerize others and become the, fortune telling, life of the party.

You will start by exploring the universe residing within your own hands. When you learn how to read your palm in simple steps you will quickly grasp this ancient art. If you get too technical and read too many palmistry books you risk becoming confused and missing the gift of simplicity.

You will want to determine the four elements one needs to consider when studying the palm of a person's hand. Fingers are first, next is the shape of your hand type, then come the mounts (bumps of flesh) and, of course, the lines (minor marks are also occasionally taken into consideration).

An Easy Guide To Palm Reading

The prominence of a certain feature signals the importance of events in that department. While nearly complete absence of some characteristics can denote little to no importance that particular aspect will have in the person's life.

In this basic palm reading divination class we are looking at one of the most fascinating parts of the human body. Possessing complexity not found in other (non-primate) species, our hands make us unique in more ways than one. If you take a look at the palm of your own hand, you will see an intricate pattern of lines and shapes that possibly no other human hand has.

Just like our fingerprints, our hands are perfectly singular. It is possible that precisely from this fact arose the idea that our destiny may be written on them and that, by deciphering the intricacies they possess, we can have a peek into the future. It may be important to note that, even as we age, the lines and marks on the palms of our hands change very little throughout our lives. It's best to learn traditional palmistry for "general" readings. Those regarding overall destiny rather than the highly specific questions related to "here" and "now" that you would ask of a psychic's crystal ball or tarot cards.

There Are Four Parts To Learn How To Do Palm Reading

1) Fingers Are The First Element For Learning Palmistry

Fingers are judged by shape and size.

  • The index finger is ruled by Jupiter, denoting the strength of your ego and your leadership skills.
  • The middle one is that of Saturn, covering ambition, logic, family and balance.
  • The ring finger, the Sun's domain, signals the amount of talent and creativity you may possess, along with your overall good fortune.
  • The little finger, ruled by Mercury, prophecies skills of communication (or lack thereof).
  • The thumb however carries little significance in palmistry.
  • Noticing the length of the fingers is important when learning how to read your palm.
  • Long fingers signify that you are very sensitive to details and perhaps a bit of a perfectionist.
  • Short fingers, however, can mean you tend to be a bit impatient and won’t want to be bothered with details.

2) Hand Shape Is The Second Part Of Learning How To Do Palm Reading

Elemental Types of Hands:

Matching the four elements in Astrology, palm and finger shapes are categorized by Fire, Earth, Air and Water.

Fire Hands

  • Solid Hands with square palms where wrist to fingers measures longer than fingers are categorized as Fire Hands. Spontaneous, energetic but hot-tempered.

Earth Hands

  • Short-fingered, with broad, square palms are called Earth Hands. Person likely works with hands. Practical, can be stubborn.

Air Hands

  • Long-fingered people, with square or rectangular palms, are called Air Hands. Deep thinkers with highly developed intuition. Thrive on challenge.

Water Hands

  • Long-fingered people with long palms that are oval shaped are considered Water Hands. Sensitive, creative, outwardly composed, but tense within.

Basic Hand Shape Meanings

Round Shaped Hands (Anchor word Wheel - Easy to get spinning)

  • If your hand shape is round, you’re an action-oriented person. You act before you think. This can sometimes cause you to land in a sticky situation, but you’re good at working things through in a crisis situation. You’re best motivated under a crushing deadline! Action people hate to wait around all day, waiting for something to happen. They get annoyed with people who take all day to make up their minds.

Oval Shaped Hands (Anchor word Heart - Feels emotions)

  • Now, if your Palm has an oval shape, it’s what I call the Conic Hand. It’s a beautiful hand and signifies that you are very emphatic. This is the ability to feel the emotions of others. It causes your aura to radiate a warm, sympathetic energy, which is attractive to the – well, the lost souls of the world. Emphatic people seem to attract the personal confessions of strangers. It would not be unusual if you are sitting at a bus stop, and someone sits next to you and starts telling you their life story. At some point in your life, if you have the Conic Hand, you’ll begin to wonder why all your friends have so many problems. It’s kind of like being the ‘agony aunt’ in your social group

Square Shaped Hands (Anchor word Chart - Plans, maps, design their future)

  • If your hand is square, you’re a planner, a designer and a coordinator. You tend to be eminently practical, a little sceptical and a person to whom security will always be important. Square hands reveal the practical people of the world. If you are square handed you will not run off to join the circus!

3) The Mounts Are The Third Element For Learning How To Do Palm Reading

Palm mounts are visible bumps of flesh that can provide a lot of information about your physical and emotional makeup. There are seven of them, each ruled by a different heavenly body. Those right below the fingers carry the protection of the planets. While the mount of Venus (symbol of love) resides at the base of your thumb, opposite the equally spacious mount of the Moon (denoting intuition and imagination). Between these fleshy cushions are nestled the upper, the lower and the large plane of Mars (respectively giving insight into temperament, enthusiasm or propensity to aggression, and your level of self-centeredness).

  • Mount of Jupiter is just below the base of the index finger.
  • Mount of Saturn is just below the base of the middle finger.
  • Mount of Apollo is just below the base of the ring finger.
  • Mount of Mercury is just below the base of the little finger.
  • Inner Mars is below Jupiter.
  • Outer Mars is below Mercury.
  • Luna is below outer Mars
  • Plain of Mars is bang in the center of the palm.
  • Venus is found at the base of the thumb on a person’s palm.

The FAQs On How To Do Palm Reading

Do you read the right or left hand in palmistry?

  • Contrary to popular belief I always go with the dominant hand. So if you are right handed, read the palm of the right hand. If you are left handed read the left palm. Beware the old wives tales on how to read your palm that are out there. Like for females use right palms for revealing the future and left for revealing qualities you incarnated with. And then the opposite of this for males, and the dominant palms for past and non dominant palms for future. Some palm reading books say palm lines of the left hand shows characteristics you chose for the present incarnation; such as - strengths and weaknesses, and life lessons. And the right hand lines reveal how you put possibilities into play.

Is palm reading accurate?

  • The ancients believed the palm of their hand was a mini-horoscope with each line representing a different element of the zodiac signs. Philosophers have believed for centuries we have a link between our inner psyche and outer manifestation of self. Our hands are the most accurate outer sign of inner being that we have.

4) Prominent Lines Are The Forth Piece Of Learning How To Do Palm Reading

The Major Lines run across the palm of your hand in various directions and hold some amazing palmistry secrets. The main lines being those of the heart, head, fate, and life lines. (the latter is always a particular point of interest and the only one the majority of people can actually recognize). Minor lines include different lines such as the health line, marriage line, intuition line, ring of Solomon, and bracelet lines etc. Those are joined by an endless number of lines with markings and interruptions that may have a negative or an extremely positive significance, depending on their position and character. This is why palmistry is often considered a more advanced form of fortune telling and needs a good deal of study before it is fully mastered.

What does the life line mean on your palm?

The Life Line

Much attention is placed on the life line. It starts on inside edge of palm, between thumb and base of the finger of Jupiter and terminates at first bracelet, where palm joins wrist. The quality of the life line speaks to the person’s constitution, i.e. the clearer and longer the better. But a long life line does not tell how long you will live; it gives an indication of how well you live. Are you vibrant and alive or tired and weary all the time? A short life line bespeak delicacy and potential of illness. Breaks in the life line will indicate periods of illness or times when you feel like ‘life is on hold’. A fork at the end of your Life line is called a Traveller’s fork, and indicates an “itchy foot” and a desire to travel. If your life line sweeps out into the Plain of Mars it will make your restless so you will most likely seek independence and want to travel a lot. If your life line hugs close to your thumb, near the Mount of Venus it will draw you to stay at home and be a homebody. During your lifetime, if your lifeline is torn between Venus, with the desire to stay at home, and Mars, with push to come out and take on the challenges of the world, you will struggle between the need for security and the desire for independence. Those with a double life line live a charmed and happy life.

How do you read the Heart line on your hand?

The Heart Line

Your heart line starts at the side of the hand and continue across the palm. Also known as the love line, it can be a short line or a long line, anywhere between the index finger to your pinkie finger, and can contain pointers toward health, emotional struggles, and mental attitude towards love. If it ends under the index finger, it signifies a person who’s a little self-centered and introspective. I call it the “Princess Line”. If your heart line ends under the second finger, you are someone who gives, and gives, and gives. This is called The Gift of Mercy, but it’s a pain in the neck kind of gift, because it means that you tend to put the need of others in front of your own. Ideally, the heart line should end between the first two fingers, which signify a good balance between giving and receiving. It’s a fine, nurturing quality that is ideal.

With a long heart line you can tell if a person is a ‘good bet’ in affairs of the heart. Whereas someone with a short heart line would indicate they are just in it as a means to an end. A broken heart line could mean an end to a close relationship or physical problems with the heart. The straight heart line can warn of obsessive jealousy, but it can mean you have a Mental Heart line. It always indicates someone whose head gets involved in matters of the heart. Good interpersonal relationships and an enduring love life must satisfy the head as well as the heart. But with a mental heart line you may over-analyse people rather than trusting your instincts. If your heart line is a curved line, you have a Physical Heart line. People with this line are very romantic and idealistic. They always show what they feel because their feelings are always close to the surface. Sometimes too close! Cheaters can be spotted because flirts will have very curvy heart lines.

What does the head line on your palm mean?

The Head Line

Located somewhere between beginning of life line and base of Jupiter (index) finger. Highlights hidden talents, aptitude and ability. Indicates intelligence or mental instability, even criminal tendencies. It should not be read as the be-all, end-all, but treated as a crucial link to other lines. It can be referred to frequently to form the big picture. A straight head line means you’re logical and technical. A curved head line shows you are creative and artistic. The short head line reveals a short attention span and and with a long deep line you have good ability to concentrate. If your headline forks, it means you can see both sides of an issue, and you will love debate. Some palmistry experts often call it a Writer’s fork or Lawyer’s fork.

What does a fate line mean?

The Fate Line

Your fate line is the vertical line in the middle of your palm. The Line Of Fate is sometimes called the Destiny or Saturn line and shows what forces go into centering your personality. If you have a deep fate line that starts close to the Life line, you’ll be a “people pleaser” early on in life, trying to meet the expectations of others. If the line starts down on the heel of the hand, it’s called a “Neptune Line” and indicates that you’re a bit of an oddball, doing things your way and marching to the beat of a different drum. If your fate line starts high in the hand, you’ll be a late bloomer. It takes you a little longer to find out who you are and what you want to do.
