How To Bless Tarot Cards To Strengthen Your Intuitive Connection

Knowing how to bless tarot cards is a form of energetic hygiene that helps you to keep your tools spiritually “clean” and working at their highest potential.

Blessing your tarot cards before using them in readings can serve several meaningful purposes, both practical and spiritual. For starters, it helps to create a deeper connection between you and the deck, allowing the cards to better attune to your personal energy and intuitive rhythm. This connection can enhance the clarity and resonance of the messages you receive. The act of blessing also serves as a moment to center yourself - helping you ground your energy, clear your mind, and focus before beginning a reading.

Another key reason is to cleanse the cards of any residual energy they may have picked up, especially if they’re new, secondhand, or have been handled by others. Blessing functions like a spiritual reset, allowing the deck to reflect only your energy and intentions. Speaking of intentions, a blessing is a powerful opportunity to consciously program your deck - whether your aim is to provide clarity, healing, truth, or emotional guidance.

Additionally, performing a blessing ritual helps to create a sacred space. It transforms your tarot readings from a casual activity into a spiritually significant practice, as well as inviting divine protection or insight. It's also about honoring tradition - bringing in a sense of ritual and routine that supports focus and reverence.

What You'll Need

  • A candle (white for clarity or purple for intuition)
  • Cleansing tool: incense (sage, palo santo, lavender), sound (bells, singing bowl), or visualization
  • A crystal (amethyst, clear quartz, or moonstone)
  • A cloth or altar to place your cards on
  • A journal or piece of paper (for setting your intention)

1. Create Your Sacred Space: Turn off distractions. Light your candle. Breathe deeply and let the space feel quiet and intentional. You might want to say something like: "I open this space with peace and purpose. May it be protected, calm, and sacred." Place your tarot cards in front of you.

2. Cleanse The Deck: Gently pass your deck through your chosen cleansing tool (smoke, sound, or light). As you do, say the Cleansing Blessing: “I cleanse these cards of all energies that do not serve, all influences that are not mine, and all vibrations that are not aligned with truth and light. With this smoke/light/sound, I release any lingering negativity. Only clear, grounded, and benevolent energy may remain. These cards are now a sacred tool for insight, guidance, and truth. So it is.” Visualize any heavy or unclear energy leaving the deck as light surrounds and purifies it.

3. Hold And Connect:  Hold your deck in both hands. Close your eyes and breathe with it. Feel its weight, its stillness. Visualize a soft light or energy flowing from your hands into the cards - your unique energetic signature.

4. State Your Intention: Speak or write your intention for your readings and your bond with this deck. Something like: “I intend to use these cards with wisdom, clarity, and compassion. May they reflect my highest truth and deepest intuition. I open myself to receive clear, loving guidance—both for myself and for others.” Then say the Bonding Blessing: “With open heart and focused mind, I bless these cards to be an extension of my intuition. May they speak clearly, truly, and wisely - guiding me and those I read for with compassion and insight. I call in clarity, truth, and connection. May my bond with this deck deepen with every reading, and may my intuition flow freely and without fear. These cards are now attuned to my spirit. So it is.”

5. Seal Your Ritual: Place your crystal on the deck or beside it. Let the cards rest on the cloth or altar overnight, under moonlight if possible. You might say: “This ritual is sealed. The bond is made. These cards are mine, and I am theirs. Blessed be.” Blow out the candle. Sit in silence for a moment and feel the energy you’ve built.

How To Bless Tarot Cards In Other Ways

  • Sleep with the deck nearby for a few nights to strengthen the energetic bond.
  • Do a personal reading asking: “What do you want me to know about our connection?”
  • Keep your cards wrapped in a cloth, pouch, or box that feels special.

Simple Blessing For Tarot Cards

My Simple Blessing For Tarot Cards - by Silver Willow

I am a gifted third generation psychic who knows how to bless tarot cards. My own unique readings are filled with insight, warmth and compassion. So, I am going to provide the ways in which I prepare a new deck, cleanse and bless my tarot, and how I continue to enhance the connection between myself and the cards I use.

I always will begin with cleansing and consecrating my new tarot decks. Naturally, I open the box and eagerly look through each of the cards picking up on the vibrations and images that immediately jump out. Once that is done, on the night of the New Moon, I dedicate the deck to the Goddess Diana and ask that she bestow he blessings upon this tool so that I may help others. In my simple blessing for tarot cards I will say words of power over the deck for a period of 3 days and nights and then I will wrap the deck in a black cloth. On the night of the Full moon, I unwrap the deck from its cloth and place them in a spot in which the light of the moon can fall upon the deck. For me, due to the fact that I celebrate during the nights of the Full Moon, I place the deck on my altar and again, ask the Goddess Diana to give blessings to the deck. I also ask my spirit guides to perform a simple blessing for tarot cards as well as to watch over me when I use the deck. I ask the Great Ones as well as my spirit brothers and sisters for their blessings, I then focus on charging the deck.

Then I begin raising power by chanting a simple blessing for tarot cards and when I have raised all of the power I can, I place my hands on the tarot cards and channel all of that power directly into the deck. Upon conclusion of this attunement I place the deck of cards in a bag that I have handmade. "May love, a warm heart, and the light of my soul, bless my work with this deck. May the sacredness of the tarot bring light and renewal to all I read for. May these tarot cards release a wellspring of inspiration. May the integrity of my soul guide and bless this work."

In order to keep my new tarot decks as potent as possible I will cleanse all of my decks of cards three times a year. I begin the cleansing in the waning phases of the moon asking the Goddess Diana to remove any negative vibrations that may have accumulated on the decks since my last cleansing. I will use my simple blessing for tarot cards in order to rid the deck of any negative astral debris. I work on one deck a night until all of the Tarot Decks are cleansed. Upon the time of the New moon, I again ask the Great Ones to bless the deck(s); once again, I work with one deck per night until all have been blessed. On the night of the Full Moon, all of the decks are brought into my circle and placed upon the altar and I again, ask the Great Ones smile favorably upon the Tarot Cards. I raise power and channel the power into each of the Tarot Decks. Instead of just placing each deck in the handcrafted bag, I place the decks on a windowsill so that they may absorb the light and energy of the full moon. It is very important to note that the Cards must be picked up and returned to their bag prior to the rising of the sun.

I have also found it beneficial to spend some time meditating with a simple blessing for tarot cards prior to actually performing any readings. So do try to include some moments before your reading when following these tarot instructions. For instance, since I know in advance when I will be reading, I am able to set aside 15 minutes to sit quietly with the deck I will be using for that session.
